K9 Coach - Jill Sharp

Growing up in the small farming community of Carbon, Alberta, Jill Sharp has always had a great love for animals & the outdoors.  It was at this early age that she dreamed of becoming a dog trainer.  After completing high school in Abbotsford, BC, she began a career in the stock market.  Always feeling something was missing, she decided to take a year off to reflect on life.  It was at this time in 2003, that she decided to attend Canada West Canine Centre in Salmon Arm, BC, the first school of dog trainers to be registered with the Private Post Secondary Education Commission of British Columbia.

After graduating from CWCC, she opened her own business Can-Can Train ‘M, in Vernon, BC.  While living in Vernon, she not only managed the most reputable boarding kennel in the Okanagan Valley, but also held private lessons & group classes in the training center at HY Country Kennels.

In 2005, she decided to move back to Abbotsford to bring her business ‘back home’.  She continued with private lessons & was also the first dog trainer to hold obedience classes through Abbotsford Parks & Recreation.

After being a professional dog trainer for several years, she realized there were many short-comings of a traditional style of training & began looking into alternative training techniques.  Through a series of events, she attended a remote collar seminar held by Sit Means Sit, in Washington State.  This opened her eyes to the possibilities & advancement in remote collar training.  A remote collar does NOT need to be used as a correction tool but rather, as a motivator for dogs!

In the spring of 2008, she attended the world renowned remote collar school for dog trainers in Hazel Green, Wisconsin: That’s My Dog!  Since attending That’s My Dog, there has been no looking back.  Jill now has a better understanding of how to implement remote collars to motivate dogs, replace bad behaviour with appropriate ones and deal with aggressive dogs.  She finds true satisfaction in her career in helping dog owners truly enjoy & see the potential in their dog.  No challenge is too big!

With her new training techniques also comes a new business name: Life Without A Leash Dog Training, which is very fitting as most clients will gain reliable off-leash control very quickly!
